the library...

A few more craftroom pictures to share...

Once upon a time I was an avid reader…I could actually become so obsessed with finishing a book that my kids would roll their eyes when I brought a new one home.

I used to love to go to the library…

The endless possibilities that all those books provided…

I ventured into our city library a couple of weeks ago looking for some history books on CD for my husband to listen to while driving.

I was a little afraid that with the onslaught of things available online that the library had become somewhat of a dinosaur institution…

I’m pleased to say that is not the case in my city at least. It took me a while to feel my way around (and no, I didn’t expect index card files…I’m not that archaic, although I do remember using them) but once I became acclimated…woo…heee…it was like going home again.

Just stepping in there brought back such a pleasant wave of memories. I began to wonder why I stopped going…why I stopped reading for pure pleasure?

I pulled a couple of books off the shelf to bring home (you know they don’t stamp the due date in them anymore) so I’m off and running.

Now I need to form a new list of favorite authors…Any suggestions?

Giddy about catching up,
Patty

Hi Patty, I love seeing photos of your craft room. Are those quilt tops that you've made? I had a similar adventure at the library recently. Ok, I knew it wasn't card catalogue but computer, but the last time I checked something out, a real person took care of me, now you go to the swipe thingy. It turned out to be a positive experience anyway. I like to read, but I'm slow unlike you, and I'm into the Stephen King, Dean Koontz, and medical dramas like Robin Cook. (I work in the surgical field...probably why) Hope you enjoy a good book in that pretty chair in your room.

I'm an insatiable reader--what genres to you prefer? I probably have a suggestion or two. Off to read before bedtime now...

Ohhh...I still love a library. I used to read non-stop too...and then once I connected with Blog Land it's like there is a choice, isn't there? I can read a book...or read here...and post...etc. I miss some of my reading time, I must admit. I think one of the things I like best about a library is the smell of books! Strange, I know... Diana

Your craft room is so colorful and cheery! I LOVE reading. I always have several books going at one time. My town's library is quite with it. They even have blu-ray now and free wi-fi!

As for author suggestions, I guess it depends on what type of books you like to read?

I go to the library every few weeks just to read for fun. I love British novels, but read just about anything!

I am with you on reading. I sometimes would be up half the night to finish one. I love the libraries, but do not go as often now. Too much time spent on blogging to read as much. My house is is a mess now for that reason.

Hi Patty, nice to "meet ya". First of all, I love your doggy! And I really like your red and white striped tins and the rose picture behind them and the quilts.
The library has saved me so much money thru the years. A favorite Juvenile Fiction series I really enjoyed reading (as an adult) is the Betsey-Tacy series by Maud Hart Lovelace. I read about it in one of the old Victoria magazines. I guess there's a B/T Society. The first in the series is really too young for adults (targeted at maybe a 4 or 5 yr old), but the following books follow Betsy and Tacy as they grow up in turn-of-the-last century Minnesota. Fun, innocent reads.
I almost forgot...Happy REDnesday~

Just started Dobson's Bringing Up Girls. I had read Bringing Up Boys a couple years ago and it looks like this one is just as good. Wish I would have had it when my kids were little but I am still learning so much...even about MYSELF as a woman! Also read "Why I Love the Church" this summer, great book by Kevin DeJoung and Ted Kluck.
I'll be looking for the Betsey-Tacy series Mary recommended above...and telling my ddil about them for the grands!

Your blog is a delight!! Gosh...the busier my business gets...the less I read! I miss it terribly. The library is still one of my favorite places in the world. I'm sure heaven is FILLED with shelves and shelves of unending books!!!

I'm loving your Reds in your craftroom. What a great way to pull Reds into your post.
I recently found the Library, again, too. They're wonderful. I like to research books online and have them sent to my local branch. They email me when they have them for me to pick up. How great is that?? I can check out books on beads and leisurely read through them to decide if it's something that I want to "own". That part I really like.
Thanks for sharing.
What a great post for Rednesday! That looks like one Fun Festival, too. Wonderful photographs and the artwork was just awesome.
Thanks so much for sharing with us all.

Me again. As a quilter I enjoy the Benni Harper mysteries written by Earlene Fowler. They're set in central Calif and each one is named after a quilt pattern--the first in the series is Fool's Puzzle. If you're not into mysteries, then I'd recommend Debbie Macomber's funny sweet stories.
